Chicken and dumplings in crock pot with bone-in thighs?

July 26th, 2012

I am looking (with very few results) for a chicken and dumplings recipe!
If anyone has a recipe with bisquick dumplings, bone-in chicken thighs (I have 4 pounds of them…), and is crock-pot friendly, I would appreciate the "share" crock pot

Thanks in advance!

This is a really easy recipe that I think I got from All Recipes. I cut up little chuncks of celery sometimes too, if I have any on hand.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

INGREDIENTS
4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves or meat from thighs
2 tablespoons butter
2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed cream of chicken soup
1 onion, finely diced
2 (10 ounce) packages refrigerated biscuit dough, torn into pieces

Place the chicken, butter, soup, and onion in a slow cooker, and fill with enough water to cover.
Cover, and cook for 5 to 6 hours on High. About 30 minutes before serving, place the torn biscuit dough in the slow cooker. Cook until the dough is no longer raw in the center.

use chicken thighs, so I brown the skin in a skillet first. Then put the thighs, carrots, potatoes, onion in the crockpot and cover with chicken broth. During the last 1/2 hour of cooking, I put the dumplings on. Here’s the recipe I use –

    2 cups Original Bisquick® mix
    2/3 cup milk

    1. Stir ingredients until soft dough forms.
    2. Drop by spoonfuls onto boiling stew; reduce heat.
    3. Cook uncovered 10 minutes. Cover and cook 10 minutes.
High Altitude (3500-6500 ft) No changes.

    Yum!

    Crockpot Chicken and Herb Dumplings
    1 (3 pound) chicken
    Salt and pepper
    2 cloves garlic, minced
    1/4 teaspoon powdered marjoram
    1/4 teaspoon powdered thyme
    1 bay leaf
1/2 cup dry white wine (optional)
    1 cup dairy sour cream
    1 cup packaged biscuit mix
    1 tablespoon chopped parsley
    6 tablespoons milk
    10 small white onions

Sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper, and place in crockpot. Insert cloves in one onion. Put all onions into pot. Add garlic, marjoram, thyme, bay leaf and wine. Cover and cook on LOW for 5 to 6 hours.

Remove bay leaf and cloves. Stir in sour cream. Increase heat to high and combine biscuit mix with parsley. Stir milk into biscuit mix until well moistened. Drop dumplings from teaspoon around edge of pot. Cover and cook on HIGH for 30 minutes.

The recipe that Holly posted is from all recipes, and I’ve tried it. It is very good if you’re wanting something tasty and easy to make
