if I cook ribs in a crock pot w/ BBQ sauce do I need to add water or anything so the sauce won’t burn?

& how long should they cook in the crock pot

On low, the temperature of the crock pot is 176 F, so BBQ sauce won’t burn. I once had to make a meal and had no time to tend it. I put 3 pounds of boneless pork ribs in the crock with a bottle of KC Masterpiece sauce, and about 1/2 of an onion diced. It cooked for 9 hours on low, the sauce didn’t burn, and the ribs were outstanding (if I do say so).

If you BBQ over charcoal, don’t EVER sauce the ribs. The higher heat will burn the sauce.

Cook them in the crockpot WITHOUT the sauce-just a cup of water-for 6 hours or so.
Add the sauce for the last 2-3 hours, or put them in a 400 degree oven with the sauce for an hour.

I would add a little water. Cook on low all day (8 hours).

No, but you have to cook them on low. If youre concerned add 1/2 cup of water. How long depends on how many ribs, how big the crockpot etc.

I would cook the meat a while first, then add sauce later. Fat will cook out of the meat. Sauce adds sugar, and will burn easily.

Don’t cook with the sauce, just warm the sauce when the ribs are done slow cooking in the crock pot. (Put the ribs and water in the pot in the morning and should be ready by the time your dinner time rolls around.) Or you could do as the first suggestion said about putting them in the oven.

This is my son’s favorite meal. I just brown the ribs and stick in the crock pot on low heat all day (about 6 to 8 hours). I add the BBQ sauce right away and have never had a problem. Good luck…..sounds good!
