How long do you cook pork ribs in the crock pot?

December 18th, 2011

I have 1lb of boneless country style pork ribs that I would like to cook in the crock pot. I’m looking for advice on how long to cook them for. I’ve found some stuff online, but the recipes tend to be for 4-6lbs of ribs.

I fix these all the time & they are YUMMY! Rinse ribs & place in crock-pot then add just enough of your fav bbq sauce to cover. Cook on low for about 8 hours or high for at least 4 – They will be more juicy & tender the longer you cook them. You’ll know when they are done – the meat will just start to fall off the bones. Enjoy!

The secret to ribs is "low & slow"….cooking at a low temperature, for a (very) long time.

Ribs are among the "cuts" of meat that contain lots of connective tissue, along with the regualr meat and fat. They can be quickly cooked, just as a beef chuck roast can be quickly cooked, but you would end up with tough meat, full of "gristle". Cooking them slowly will result in the connective tissue breaking down (or dissolving), so the ribs will be so tender the fall of the bones.

I won’t bother with an actual recipe, because any recipe you already have (rubs, marinades, etc) will work just fine. But if you’re using a slow cooker/crockpot, cut the rack/racks of ribs into sets of 1 or 2 bones, apply your flavoring, and cook them in the slow cooker (on LOW setting) for anywhere from 6 to 8 hours. The time will vary depending on the type of cooker you’re using, and also on the size & quantity of ribs.

After the time in the slow cooker, the ribs can be eaten right away, or you can grill them briefly, to get grill marks and "grill flavor" into them

I make that fairly often for my kids. They are SO cheap and turn our really good. I put it in before I go to work and it’s ready when I get home. That’s about 9 hours on low. (When I have time, I brown them on the grill before I put them in the slow cooker.) I bet it doesn’t have to cook that long, but when I do it like that, it’s delicious. I cook them in bullion and herbs. After they’re done I serve them on a dinner roll with blue cheese and bbq sauce.

    Ingredients:
2 racks of baby back pork spareribs
grill seasoning blend or salt and pepper
    Sauce:
    3/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon Creole mustard or Dijon mustard
    2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
    3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
    1 clove garlic, finely minced
    1/4 teaspoon celery seed
    Preparation:
Line a large baking pan (with sides) with foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray. Heat the oven to 350°.
Sprinkle the ribs all over with grill seasoning or salt and pepper. Arrange the ribs on the baking pan and bake for 45 minutes, turning once after about 30 minutes. Cut the ribs into serving-size portions and arrange in the slow cooker. Combine sauce ingredients and pour over the ribs. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours, until ribs are very tender.
    Serves 4.

For a 1 pound should’t take long, at least 1 hour before your actual meal, if in a hurry cook on high if not cook on low, add some sprite to it, it will make it more moist and flavorable, and also you can check to see if the meat start to fall apart too, that when it done.

about 8 hours on low or 5 on high. just make sure you have the crock pot 1/2 to 2/3 full and leave the lid on for the entire cooking time. I do baby back ribs with lots of bbq sauce and it comes out better then a restaurant following the above times.
