What are some simple recipes for the crock pot?

December 22nd, 2012

I’m talking really simple – like meat and potatoes types of recipes. I was also wondering if you can cook chicken fajita meat with only chicken and the seasoning packet in the crock pot. Do you add water, and cook on low or high? Thanks in advance!!!
r>i make a really simple chicken in the crock pot.
1. add sliced mushrooms and oinons to the base of the crock pot
2. place chicken (peices or whole) on top
3. pour 1 packet onion soup mix on top
4. no need to add water since chicken will loose alot of fluid.
5. cook for 3-6 hours depending on size of chicken

if you follow the recipe above with chicken breast on the bone (you can even cook from frozen) with fajita seasoning instead of soup mix i expect you’ll get a really tasty meal… also you can use pepper instead of the mushrooms to stuff in ur fajitas.

For the chicken fajita meat, I would add chicken, seasoning packet and cut up onions and peppers (if you like), along with some chicken broth and cook on low for about 7 hours or so. Just add enough broth to keep it from drying out (maybe 1/2 cup or so for a few pounds of chicken).

    Country Style Steak…

    Meat:
    ~small bowl of flour
    ~olive oil
    ~cube steak

Take your olive oil and pour into frying pan. Once the pan is hot and the oil is completely covered the bottom, you may start by cutting the meat into smaller pieces (while removing the visible fat). Take the small pieces and coat them in flour, covering completely. Place them in the pan and brown outside only, the inside will cook later. Drain oil off on a paper towel.

    Gravy:
    ~excess grease from pan
    ~excess flour from above
    ~water
    ~salt
    ~ pepper

Mix the grease and flour in the same, unwashed frying pan. Add water to loosen. Sprinkle salt and pepper, to your own taste. Continue stirring and let it be the consistency of gravy. If it happens to be TOO thick then add water to thin it out.

Yes add whatever the packet says to. Cook on low if you have the time for 6-8 hours. As for simple recipes, here are a few. My hubby is also a meat and taters man, LOL

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches — This is only good is you use your FAVORITE bbq sauce. If you are stuck with something else; don’t make it.

    INGREDIENTS
1 (14 ounce) can beef broth
    3 pounds boneless pork ribs
1 (18 ounce) bottle barbeque sauce

    DIRECTIONS
Pour can of beef broth into slow cooker, and add boneless pork ribs. Cook on High heat for 4 hours, or until meat shreds easily. Remove meat, and shred with two forks. It will seem that it’s not working right away, but it will.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Transfer the shredded pork to a Dutch oven or iron skillet, and stir in barbeque sauce.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until heated through.

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff — Dont make this with plain cream of mushroom. It wont be good. Also you can use sour cream instead of the cream cheese.

    INGREDIENTS
1 pound cubed beef stew meat
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed golden mushroom soup
    1/2 cup chopped onion
    1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    1/4 cup water
    4 ounces cream cheese

    DIRECTIONS
In a slow cooker, combine the meat, soup, onion, Worcestershire sauce and water.
Cook on Low setting for 8 hours, or on High setting for about 5 hours. Stir in cream cheese just before serving.

    5 1/2 pounds pot roast

    DIRECTIONS
In a slow cooker, mix cream of mushroom soup, dry onion soup mix and water. Place pot roast in slow cooker and coat with soup mixture.

I put 4 chicken breasts in the crockpot, add a can of cream of chicken (or mushroom) soup and a big dollup of sour cream. Serve with rice or noodles.

Also, I love to make pinto beans in teh crock pot, easiest meal ever. Just add the beans and water, and cook all day. Add some onion, salt, pepper for more flavor, and maybe some bacon.
